Programmers are returning bitcoins worth 25 million euros

As part of an investigation into the operators of the illegal film portal, the authorities have confiscated bitcoins worth over 25 million euros.
The seizure took place on Monday, announced the General Prosecutor’s Office in Dresden on Tuesday. The programmer of the once leading German pirate portal had voluntarily released the bitcoins. The programmer and a still fleeting accomplice are accused of being the main operator, along with other participants, of distributing over 880,000 pirated copies of films via the “” portal from autumn 2008 to May 2013.

Bitcoin used for purchases
In addition, they are said to have operated an illegal streaming service. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the two main operators of the illegal portal have used the profits made from advertising and income from subscription traps since mid-2012 to purchase the Internet currency Bitcoin on a large scale. The programmer received over 22,000 bitcoins. From autumn 2013 to mid-2016, he mainly used the bitcoins to purchase various properties through a real estate agent. The programmer and the real estate entrepreneur from Berlin, against whom it is being investigated on suspicion of commercial money laundering, have been in custody since November 2019. According to the Attorney General, they have given extensive confessions and are supporting the law enforcement agencies in further investigations into the still-volatile second main operator.
